A collaborative action research project run by volunteers to uncover how organizations can harness the power of AI effectively, responsibly and in a manner that empowers employees and teams.
"To uncover how organizations can leverage the power of artificial intelligence in a manner that is human-centered, responsible and . What principles, rules, norms, interventions, processes and strategies are needed to achieve this? How can this be monitored?"
Practitioners and scientists work together, iteratively, to address a real societal challenge — combining field experience with academic rigor. This is not research done about organizations, but with them.
We form workgroups of 12–20 people, consisting of academics and practitioners. Workgroups meet online or face-to-face several times over several months to develop, iterate and test the framework collaboratively. Facilitated by us with Liberating Structures.
A deliberate mix of practitioners and academics. Voluntary participation only.
3 sessions of 3–4 hours over several months, plus optional work between sessions. We can add more sessions together.
Online, face-to-face, or run entirely inside one organization for deeper internal buy-in.
Every workgroup contributes to the same evolving framework, wherever it runs.
The workgroup shares and pools data — from world cafes, existing research, academic studies, and participants' own organizational experiences. Everyone arrives as both contributor and learner.
Participants surface patterns, tensions, and insights together — findings neither academics nor practitioners would reach alone. Facilitation keeps it rigorous and grounded.
Insights are translated directly into the shared framework — refining its principles, questions, and practices. It's a living document, not a final product.
Participants take the updated framework back into their organizations. What works, what doesn't, and what surprises them feeds directly into the next cycle.
Practical guidance for , human-centered, responsible AI adoption — and how to monitor it.

Platforms like Columinity will let organizations measure how well they're living up to the aim.
Field perspectives, scalable beyond Western Europe with a ready facilitation guide.
Peer-reviewed work, including studies produced within the workgroup process itself.
Partner studies and datasets integrated as the research evolves.
What does your organization find challenging — and what have you already learned?

This research only works because people bring real experience to it. Choose how you want to contribute.
Curious about the research and how it works? Join a free online meetup where we introduce the initiative, explain how you can get involved, and answer your questions.
Help us by collecting experiences from within your organization. Use our facilitation guide to run a structured conversation about AI in your workplace. Share the outcomes with us so that the workgroups can integrate your lessons and experiences into the framework.
Bring your AI challenges, experiences and dilemmas into a faciliated workgroup, and learn alongside peers from other organizations and academia.
Not sure if you're a good fit? You are if you have some experience with AI and are motivated to answer questions about human-centered AI. You do not need to be an expert or academic.
We are running several workgroups in parallel. Pick the series that suits your location and availability:
